Three light novels based on the series have also been published: The Seven Deadly Sins -Gaiden- The Seven Wishes of the Royal city from Old Times and The Seven Deadly Sins -Gaiden- The Seven Scars Left Behind by Shuka Matsuda, and The Seven Deadly Sins: Seven Days by Mamoru Iwasa. There is also a 24-episode anime adaptation of the series by studio A-1 Pictures and a follow-up titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of Holy War.
The story takes place in the region of Britannia, once home to an active group of knights known as the Seven Deadly Sins who disbanded after they allegedly plotted to overthrow the Liones Kingdom and were supposedly defeated by the Holy Knights (Zaratras, Gilthunder, Guila, Hauser, Dreyfus, Hendrickson, Griamore, Helbram, Vivian, and Gustaf), the most powerful knights in Britannia who protect the kingdom. However, 10 years later, the Holy Knights stage a coup and capture the kingdom under their tyrannical rule, forcing the third princess of the kingdom, Elizabeth, to journey the land in search of the Seven Deadly Sins, the only ones strong enough to defeat the Holy Knights and reclaim the kingdom.
Along her journey, she meets Meliodas, the owner of a bar called the Boar Hat and the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins (which consists of himself, Diane, Ban, King, Gowther, Merlin, and Escanor) who agrees to help her track down the other members and end the Holy Knights’ coup. Together with him and his talking pet companion Hawk, she begins working at his bar as a waitress as she continues her search for the remaining members.
